After Your Surgery
Helpful guidelines to follow after your surgery:
- Do not drive a car or other vehicle, operate power equipment, drink alcohol, or sign legal documents for 24 hours after surgery. Children must be with a responsible adult for 24 hours after surgery.
- Begin eating light foods, such as jello, soup, and crackers, progress to a normal diet
- Rest quietly for 24 hours after your surgery. Keep your head elevated above your heart. Facial surgery patients should sleep with 2-3 pillows.
- You may experience generalized body soreness, which often accompanies a general anesthetic.
- You may notice some redness, swelling, or discoloration around the area of your surgery, as well as, drainage or bleeding. If this becomes excessive, call your physician.
- Notify a physician if your temperature rises above 101 degrees.
- Notify a physician if you experience persistent nausea/vomiting/dizziness (greater than two days).
- Drink only clear liquids if you experience nausea or vomiting.
